Blackburn: GOP should put woman on ’16 ticket
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said Sunday afternoon that she hoped a woman is on the Republican White House ticket in 2016.
{mosads}”I hope that you’re going to see a woman on the Republican ticket this year,” Blackburn said during a special broadcast of CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Blackburn’s comment came during a roundtable discussion focused on how Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and other Republican presidential candidates might ultimately defeat Clinton.
“Everybody’s going to have to have women to win,” Blackburn said during the segment, awaiting Hillary Clinton’s much-anticipated campaign launch Sunday afternoon.
Blackburn encouraged “that field of guys out there right now running” to “just be cognizant, aware and to make certain they don’t misstep when it comes to dealing with women constituents, with female reporters.”
Blackburn’s name was briefly floated as a potential 2016 presidential contender last year, though she insisted in an interview later with Fox News that she was “not running for president.”
Some expect that both the Republican and Democratic White House tickets in 2016 will include a woman.
