Clinton makes bigger splash on Facebook than Cruz or Paul

Hillary Clinton’s campaign announcement on Sunday lit up Facebook, making a bigger splash than the announcements of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) or Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

There were 10.1 million interactions on the social network about Clinton’s announcement originating from 4.7 million users in the 24 hours around the launch, Facebook said.

{mosads}In the same time period for his announcement, there were 5.5 million interactions about Cruz generated by 2.1 million users. Paul’s announcement garnered 1.9 million interactions from 865,000 individuals.

Posts, comments, shares and likes were all counted as interactions.

Clinton’s sleek announcement video was also viewed more than 1.8 million times on the social platform.

But the data provided by Facebook might also reveal one of Clinton’s challenges as she looks to win the White House. In the week leading up to her announcement, the topic she was most linked with on the social network was “government ethics,” which could be a reference to the scandal over the personal email account she used for official business at the State Department.

After launching her run on Sunday, Clinton began a road trip to Iowa. She will meet with voters there and look to begin her campaign in more intimate settings that allow her to directly connect with voters. She will reportedly hold a campaign kickoff event next month.
