Rubio would attend a same-sex wedding

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is opposed to same-sex marriage, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t attend a gay wedding.

“If it’s somebody in my life that I care for, of course I would,” Rubio said in an interview with Fusion on Wednesday.

{mosads}“Ultimately, if someone that you care for and is part of your family has decided to move in one direction or another or feels that way because of who they love, you respect that because you love them,” he said.

Rubio, who announced Monday he will run for the White House in 2016, is Catholic. He told MSNBC on Tuesday he believes “the decision on how we define marriage has always belonged to the states.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday slammed Rubio, the youngest of the major presidential candidates, as “the candidate of yesterday” for his stance on gay marriage. Tapper cited a Pew poll showing 61 percent of young Republicans are in favor of same-sex unions.
