Rubio tops GOP field in second survey
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has moved ahead of his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in a second survey to show him surging in less than 24 hours.
In a nationwide Fox News poll, Rubio garnered 13 percent support from registered voters who said they were likely to vote in the Republican primary. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker followed with 12 percent, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) rounded out the top three with 10 percent.
{mosads}Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is thought to be the establishment favorite in the race should he choose to make an official bid, garnered 9 percent support, as did former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
It’s the second poll released on Thursday to find Rubio surging following his announcement last week that he would seek the presidency.
A Quinnipiac University survey found that he was beating Bush with 15 percent support from Republican voters around the country.
His announcement appears to have given him a boost among voters. In a Fox News poll in mid-March, Rubio garnered only 8 percent support.
Neither Walker nor Bush have announced that they plan to run. But both men are recruiting staffers and donors who would support them if they were to run.
The poll had a sample of 1,012 registered voters and a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percentage points. The poll was conducted between April 19 and 21.
