Sanders to discuss ‘agenda for America’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)  will hold a press conference Thursday on his “agenda for America” the same day he is expected to announce a Democratic presidential bid.

The Independent’s office sent out a notice to reporters on Wednesday afternoon that the senator will hold a press conference from the U.S. Capitol at noon.

{mosads}Asked about what the senator would discuss, Sanders spokesman Jeff Frank said it’s “about his agenda for America, that’s about all I can tell you.”

He declined to say whether or not Sanders would discuss the 2016 campaign during the press conference.

A Democratic source told The Hill earlier this week that Sanders would announce his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination in a statement later this week, before heading back to his home state for a campaign kick-off event early next month.

While the Thursday launch is expected to come via social media and not in this press conference, it will let Sanders address the D.C. press corps and maximize coverage of his new campaign.

The announcement will likely give heavy front-runner Hillary Clinton her first Democratic challenger, though Sanders faces an uphill battle to get the party’s nod. But he said earlier this month that he wouldn’t run “unless I thought I could win.”
