Huckabee: Hillary ‘absolutely’ wrong on immigration

Former Arksnsas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Wednesday criticized Hillary Clinton for endorsing a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

“You’ve got to have a secure border before you start talking about what you’re going to do,” Huckabee told MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt during an interview in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

{mosads}Asked whether Clinton is wrong on immigration and other issues, Huckabee replied: “Oh, on a lot of things, absolutely.”

Huckabee’s remarks come as he visits Iowa for the first time as a 2016 GOP presidential candidate.

Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination, on Tuesday backed a path towards citizenship for illegal immigrants during a roundtable at a Nevada high school.

“If we claim that we are for families, we have to pull together and solve the outstanding issues around our broken immigration system,” she said.

“Today, not a single Republican candidate — announced or potential — is clearly or consistently supporting a path to citizenship,” Clinton said.

“When they talk about legal status, that is code for second-class status,” she added.

Huckabee, who formally announced his White House run on Tuesday in his hometown of Hope, Ark., is among a growing number of Republicans vying to take on Clinton in 2016.

While Huckabee took aim at Clinton in the MSNBC interview, he declined to take on his rivals for the GOP nomination.

“I’m not going to get into Sen. Cruz,” Huckabee said in response to Hunt’s question about Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and his fitness for the Oval Office.

“I’ll let him make his mark here,” he added. “I’m going to let every person running for president make their case.”
