Clinton strengthens lead in poll

Hillary Clinton has bounced off a rocky patch to open up comfortable leads over all her Republican and Democratic challengers, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey.

The poll finds Clinton has expanded her margins over the top tier of GOP presidential hopefuls.

{mosads}Clinton leads Jeb Bush 48 percent to 40 percent, after her lead over the former Florida governor had narrowed to 6 percentage points in the same poll from April.

Clinton leads Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) 50 percent to 40 percent, also up from a 6-point advantage in the previous poll.

And Clinton takes 51 percent support to 37 percent against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Her 14-percentage-point advantage over Walker is up from 10 points in April.

The former secretary of State continues to trounce her opponents in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton is the first choice for 75 percent of Democrats, with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) in a distant second place at 15 percent.

A whopping 92 percent of Democrats said they could see themselves supporting Clinton. Vice President Biden is the next closest Democrat at 65 percent.

In addition, Clinton has seen her favorability rating bounce back after it appeared to have bottomed out in the same poll from April.

Forty-four percent of voters said they have a positive view of Clinton, against 40 percent who said they view her negatively. That’s up from 42 percent positive and 52 percent negative in the previous survey.

Still, the poll found a majority of Democrats, 62 percent, want Clinton to face a substantial primary challenge, believing it will make her stronger in the general election.

Sanders has emerged as the biggest threat to Clinton from the left. Over the weekend, he attracted more than 5,000 supporters at a campaign rally in Colorado, the biggest turnout for any candidate on either side.

Only 35 percent said they’d like to see Clinton go through an easy primary that unites the party ahead of the general election.

The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll of 1,000 adults was conducted between June 14 and June 18 and has a 3-percentage-point margin of error.
