Bush to release three decades of tax returns

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) will release more than three decades of personal income tax returns Tuesday afternoon on his campaign website, according to multiple reports.

The mass release is intended to showcase Bush’s commitment to transparency as a two-term governor and comes on the final fundraising day of a quarter in which he is expected to announce a large cash haul.

Releasing 33 years of tax returns is a new record in U.S. politics, topping the 30 years of returns released in 1996 by then-Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and 20 years of returns released in 2004 by then-Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) each released two years of returns when they ran for president and secured the Republican nomination in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

Bush’s release pressures Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential frontrunner, to release her latest financial figures. She and husband Bill Clinton have been under fire in recent months for high-paid speeches.
