Christie rebukes Trump in New Hampshire

Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said on Thursday that Donald Trump had crossed the line by repeatedly criticizing Mexico’s impact on the U.S. immigration system.

Christie, who launched his bid for the White House this week, rebuked Trump during multiple stops in New Hampshire, according to Bloomberg Politics.

{mosads}“The comments were inappropriate and have no place in this race,” Christie said of Trump’s remarks in Nashua, N.H.

Trump sparked outrage by deriding Hispanic immigrants during his formal campaign launch on June 16.

“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” he said at Trump Tower in New York City.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” Trump added. “And some, I assume, are good people.”

Christie said on Thursday that he disagrees with both Trump’s message and his solutions on immigration. He cited Trump’s promise he would build a wall along the entire U.S.-Mexico border.

“It’s not going to happen,” Christie said of that proposal. “It’s the wrong message to send and it’s not going to be effective.”

“Think about what that’s going to cost.”

“I’ve never seen a wall that was big enough or tall enough to stop a person who was determined to get over, under or around it from getting over, under or around it.”

Christie additionally challenged Trump’s assertion that a wall along America’s southern border is the quick fix the immigration issue needs.

“Let’s not kid ourselves that this is the easy answer,” he said, according to Bloomberg Politics.

“There may be certain spots where it makes sense to build a wall or build a fence,” he added. “But not the whole thing.”

Christie formally started his campaign on Tuesday from his old high school in Livingston, N.J.

While he was once seen as a rising star, Christie is now seen as a long-shot to win the GOP nomination, and is betting on New Hampshire to help revive his chances.
