PGA moves event from Trump course

The Professional Golf Association and Donald Trump have reached an agreement to move a Grand Slam event away from the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.

In separate statements, Trump and the PGA on Tuesday said the decision was mutual.

{mosads}“Due to the controversy surrounding statements made by Mr. Trump having to do with illegal immigrants pouring into the United States from Mexico and other parts of the world, Mr. Trump does not want his friends at the PGA of America to suffer any consequences or backlash with respect to the Grand Slam of Golf,” a statement from Trump’s political team said.

The PGA is the latest business to part ways with Trump following the remarks he made last month about undocumented immigrants being criminals and rapists.

Those remarks, made when Trump launched his bid for the White House, have been denounced by several Republican presidential candidates.

On Monday, Trump doubled down on the remarks, saying “infectious disease is pouring across the border” in a lengthy statement that pointed to the slaying of a woman in San Francisco. The suspect in the case had been deported to Mexico five times.

“This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States,” Trump said. “In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government.”

Trump’s business interests have taken a hit amid his presidential run. So far, Univision, NBCUniversal, Macy’s, NASCAR, Serta and ESPN have all cut ties with the real estate mogul.

According to a report on the DCist, celebrity chef José Andrés is now under pressure to pull out of a restaurant he’s planning to launch at a Trump luxury hotel in Washington, D.C.
