Trump: McCain should apologize

Donald Trump on Sunday kept up his criticism of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and said the senator should apologize for comments about people who attended a Trump rally focused on immigration.

Trump took to Twitter Sunday morning after the GOP presidential candidate sparked outrage on Saturday by mocking McCain’s military service.

“He was a war hero because he was captured,” Trump sarcastically told host Frank Luntz during the 2015 Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. “I like people who weren’t captured.”

McCain was held as a prisoner for six years during the Vietnam War.

Trump later Saturday accused McCain of being “all talk, no action” on veterans issues on Saturday as he sought to clarify his dismissive words toward McCain.

“I am not a fan of John McCain because he has done so little for our Veterans and he should know better than anybody what the Veterans need, especially in regards to the VA,” Trump said in a statement released by his campaign.

Trump repeated that criticism on Sunday.

The Veterans Administration is in shambles and our veterans are suffering greatly. John McCain has done nothing to help them but talk.

Trump also said McCain owed an apology to the people who attended an immigration rally in Phoenix.

Many of the GOP’s most visible members suggested the outspoken billionaire and presidential candidate went too far on Saturday.

“Senator McCain is an American hero because he served his country and sacrificed more than we can imagine – period,” said RNC Chief Strategist and Communications Director Sean Spicer said in a statement.
