Perry: Trump liked me before he didn’t

After finding himself in Donald Trump’s crosshairs, Rick Perry is now pointing to the real estate mogul’s past praise of the former Texas governor.

{mosads}Perry’s campaign released a 30-second video on Wednesday that includes tweets from 2012, when Trump said “Texas is lucky” to have Perry and that the former governor was a “patriot.”

Both GOP presidential candidates have sparred for weeks, with issues such as illegal immigration and border security often taking a backseat to personal jabs at each other.

Trump has repeatedly mocked Perry’s glasses and said he needs to take an IQ test before getting on the debate stage, while Perry has said “Trump-ism” is a “cancer” to conservatism.

After Perry’s campaign began retweeting Trump’s 2012 comments, the reality TV star posted a photo of the pair:

The jabs come two weeks before the first GOP debate, as Trump enjoys a spot atop a crowded GOP field in polling while Perry tries to distinguish himself in a second White House bid.

Trump on Thursday is slated to visit the border between Texas and Mexico, where he is expected to blast Perry and the Obama administration over border security.
