New PAC wants to fire Trump
A new political group has a message for Donald Trump: No, you’re fired!
{mosads}The Let’s Fire TRUMP PAC filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to create the political action committee on Wednesday that turns Trump’s famous catchphrase from his time as the host of NBC’s “The Apprentice” back on him.
In order to follow FEC rules that only allow a candidate’s name to be used in an authorized group, the filing notes that TRUMP is an “acronym of Terrible Radicals Undermining Middle Class People.”
CARLY for America, a super-PAC supporting Carly Fiorina, has used a similar tactic to keep its name. When prompted by the FEC, it turned Carly into an acronym for Conservative, Authentic, Responsive Leadership for You.
The anti-Trump PAC’s creation was first reported by Northeast Ohio Media Group, which owns the Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer.
The paper also reported that the group’s treasurer, Jennifer Scofield, is a former aide to local Democratic county executive Ed FitzGerald. He ran for governor against Trump’s fellow GOP presidential hopeful, Gov. John Kasich, in 2014, but lost by a wide margin.
Scofield, who was reached at the email address listed on the PAC’s form, told The Hill that the group intends to “tell the real story about Donald Trump using traditional and social media.”
“Donald Trump represents the worst of our politics and his campaign is bringing out the worst in the American People. We deserve better and we need to fire Donald Trump from the presidential election,” she said by email.
“We are going to work each and every day to fight back against Trump’s media machine. We need to tell the truth about Trump. He is a bigoted billionaire whose opinion isn’t worth two cents.”
It’s unclear how or if the group will push back against Trump, as filings for groups with humorous names that do not completely get off the ground are not uncommon.
Trump has riled up those on both sides of the aisle with controversial comments about Mexican immigrants and the war record of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
