Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Monday that Donald Trump’s campaign is a “sideshow” that threatens to drown out the rest of the Republican presidential field.
{mosads}“For a lot of us it’s like watching a car accident instead of focusing on the direction we should be headed,” Walker said on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom.”
“That’s a sideshow out there. I think most of us as candidates — at least I do — I want to be talking about making how we make this country great again.”
Walker said that Trump is “drowning just about everybody else out.”
Over the weekend, controversy once again erupted around Trump’s campaign, when the billionaire real estate mogul criticized Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly for the questions she posed to him at last week’s debate.
“She gets out and starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions,” Trump told CNN’s Don Lemon. “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
Walker on Monday called the rhetoric “inappropriate.”
“The language that he is using is absolutely inappropriate, not just for the presidential campaign, it’s inappropriate, period,” Walker said. “In the end, though, I think voters are smart. They realize that not every Republican shares the beliefs that one particular candidate does in the same way that not every Democrat shares the beliefs of one person out there. I think Americans are smart.”
Walker said Republicans are focusing too much on Trump and need instead to turn their attention on Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“The real opponent not just for Republicans but I think for most of us in America is Hillary Clinton,” Walker said. “She would be awful as president, and wee need to focus in on that, and I think I’m the best candidate.”
