Bookmakers favor Bush over Trump

Forget Donald Trump. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is the favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination, according to Paddy Power, the Irish betting site.

Trump trails Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in Paddy Power’s rankings, though Trump might be the better bet. At 9-2 odds, a $100 bet on Trump would win $450.

{mosads}Bush’s odds are 6-4, meaning a $100 bet would return just $150. At 4-1, a $100 bet on Walker would pay $400.

A few long-shots could be worth consideration. Paddy Power’s odds on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) winning the nomination are 25-1.

To put that in perspective, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who isn’t running for president, is at 40-1. (Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whi is in the race, is also at 40-1. Fellow White House hopefuls Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and former New York Gov. George Pataki are at 66-1.)

A bet on Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination returns little. A $100 bet on Clinton returns just $20.

If you are feeling the Bern, however, a $100 bet on Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) would return $600 at 6-1 odds if he were to win the nomination (actor Alex Baldwin is a 500-1 underdog.)

Clinton is also the favorite to win the White House with even odds, compared to Bush’s 10-3 odds. Trump is 10-1, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is 12-1.

Any Democrat gets 4-6 odds to win the White House, while a generic Republican gets lesser, 6-5 odds.

Gambling on U.S. elections is illegal in the United States, so you won’t be able to make any of these bets in Las Vegas.

In Great Britain and Ireland, however, gambling on elections is entirely legal — and big business.
