Donald Trump posted a video to his Instagram account on Monday criticizing Jeb Bush for his characterization of illegal immigration as an “act of love.”
“Yeah, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony,” Bush says in the video. “It’s an act of love.”
Bush’s words are accompanied by the mug shots of three illegal immigrants who committed violent crimes while in the country.
“Love? Forget love, it’s time to get tough!” appears onscreen after Bush’s remarks.
This is not the first time that Trump has gone after the former Florida governor on the topic of immigration.
He called out Bush for what he perceived as a flip-flop on the appropriateness of the term “anchor baby.”
“You know, he puts out a report saying do not use the term ‘anchor baby,’ ” Trump said at a rally in Dubuque, Iowa. “Then I used it, my polls go through the room, and now he’s using ‘anchor baby,’ and he’s taking criticism.”
The real estate mogul has also accused Bush of being influenced on immigration by his wife, who is from Mexico.
“I mean, look, I would say that he would,” Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper last month. “If my wife were from Mexico, I think I would have a soft spot for people from Mexico.”
