Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) said on Thursday that fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is leading the 2016 race to the White House by bullying others.

{mosads}“Donald Trump is trying to insult his way to the presidency,” Bush said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“[Trump’s] comments are hurtful to a lot of people, and Mr. Trump knows this,” he said. “People want a hopeful, uplifting message.”

Bush was responding to Trump’s comments on Tuesday afternoon that the former Florida governor should “set the example” by speaking English when in the United States.

Bush countered on Wednesday that Trump’s stance undermines America’s legacy as a melting pot.

“[The fact] that he would say we should only speak English is kind of ridiculous if you think about it,” Bush said of Trump, the current GOP front-runner. “We’re going to close all the foreign language classes? Why would he have a contract with Univision for his beauty pageant? This is a diverse country, we should celebrate that diversity and embrace the set of shared values.”

“Mr. Trump doesn’t believe in those shared values,” added Bush.

The remarks come as Trump leads the race for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination across multiple national polls.

He admitted on Thursday that he would support his party’s nominee in next year’s general election – even if it is the outspoken billionaire.

“Yeah I would — of course,” Bush said when asked if he would support Trump as the GOP’s nominee. “We need to be unified. We need to win.”
