Iowa’s lone Democratic rep to endorse Clinton

Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) will endorse Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid on Monday, the Quad City Times reports

{mosads}Loebsack, the lone Democrat in Iowa’s congressional delegation, will endorse Clinton at a Labor Day picnic near the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois.

“She has the ideas, the passion, the values that we need in our next president,” Loebsack will say of Clinton, according to the report. “To put it simply, she knows how to work with others and get things done. That is why I’m proud to stand with her today and announce my support for Hillary Clinton for President.”

The endorsement comes as Clinton continues to lose ground to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Iowa.

An NBC/Marist poll out Sunday showed Clinton taking 38 percent of the Democratic vote in Iowa, compared to 27 percent for Sanders. Clinton’s lead has shrunk 13 points since July.

Loebsack met with every Democrat running for president, according to the Times, and he will endorse Clinton because of her experience.

“I have spent my time in Congress fighting to expand the middle class … and to grow an economy that works for all Iowans,” Loebsack will reportedly say. “And I know that is what Hillary Clinton has spent her life fighting for.”

Loebsack endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama over Clinton before the Iowa caucuses in 2008.
