Bush slams Trump on taxes
Jeb Bush slammed Donald Trump on Wednesday after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) praised the GOP presidential candidate’s tax policies.
“I mean, when Elizabeth Warren … Yesterday, I almost like, spit up my Diet Coke — Elizabeth Warren applauded Donald Trump for his tax policies,” Bush said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
{mosads}“I mean, come on. This is ‘Alice in Wonderland’ time here,” Bush said.
Warren on Tuesday praise Trump’s support for higher taxes on wealthier Americans. She followed liberal New York Times columnist Paul Krugman in doing so.
“Donald Trump and I both agree that there ought to be more taxation of the billionaires, the people who are making their money on Wall Street,” Warren said on ABC’s “The View.”
Trump’s suggestion last month that he would tax wealthier Americans like himself was met with criticism from members of his own party.
On Tuesday, presidential rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) blasted Trump on the issue, suggesting those wanting to raise taxes “should run for the Democratic nomination.”
Bush, the former governor of Florida, has stepped up his criticism of Trump in recent weeks as he has fallen further behind the business mogul in polls.
“I’m not going to stand by and let the party I believe in — I believe in limited government and personal responsibility and individual freedom and capitalism, all these things that have created the greatness of our country — I’m not going to let that brand be tarnished by people who are going to come in and disparage these deeply held beliefs,” he said Wednesday.
