Earnest: Clinton doesn’t owe Obama an apology
Hillary Clinton does not owe President Obama an apology for conducting official business on her private email server, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Thursday.
{mosads}”No,” Earnest answered during the daily press briefing, after a reporter asked if Clinton should apologize. “I don’t think that he has asked or sought anything like that.”
Earnest — who fielded a number of questions on the email scandal — dismissed the notion that Clinton is receiving special treatment regarding her use of the private email server as secretary of State.
“I think it is pretty clear she is getting special treatment from Republicans in Congress,” Earnest shot back, questioning the scope of the Benghazi Committee’s probe into her email system.
Earnest said they put together a committee to investigate Benghazi but they are “unable to explain this far how this is directly related to their ongoing effort.”
“It is clear how it is directly related to their political motivations,” he said.
The White House spokesman also shrugged off the suggestion that Obama knew about his former secretary of State’s use of her private email. “Not that I’m aware,” he said.
After weeks of negative headlines on the issue, Clinton finally apologized to the public for her use of a private email account this week, once in an interview with ABC’s David Muir and then later in an email to supporters.
