Bush doubles down on defense of brother: ‘He kept us safe’

GOP candidate Jeb Bush is doubling down after defending his brother’s record on national security during Wednesday night’s presidential debate.

Bush tweeted a picture of his brother, President George W. Bush, standing near the ruins of the World Trade Center after the Sept. 11 attacks with the caption “He kept us safe.”

Bush used a similar line during the second Republican primary debate on Wednesday when defending his brother against an attack from front-runner Donald Trump.

“Your brother and your brother’s administration gave us Barack Obama, because it was such a disaster those last three months that Abraham Lincoln couldn’t have been elected,” Trump said at the debate.

“You know what, as it relates to my brother, there’s one thing I know for sure. He kept us safe,” Bush responded.

“Do you remember the rubble, do you remember the firefighter with his arms around him? He sent a clear signal that the United States would be strong and fight Islamic terrorism, and he did keep us safe,” the former governor added.

“I don’t know, you feel safe right now? I don’t feel so safe,” Trump said.
