Trump says he’ll spend $100M in GOP race
Billionaire real estate tycoon Donald Trump is willing to spend more than $100 million to win the Republican presidential nomination, he told The New York Times in a report published Friday.
Trump told the newspaper he was prepared to spend that amount primarily targeting voters in early-voting states, though said he’s so far received “free nationwide publicity” from cable news.
{mosads}That extensive media coverage saved him $15 million in campaign commercials over the summer, he estimated, and he predicted that it is likely to continue into early voting.
He also predicted that should he become the nominee, “the Republican Party will kick in money, the whole party thing will get involved, but still I will spend whatever is necessary.”
Sailing in polls for several weeks, Trump boasted last month, while standing in front of his self-branded helicopter at the Iowa State Fair, that he’d spend up to $1 billion on the election.
