Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday picked up another lawmaker endorsement for his presidential campaign, with Rep. Randy Weber becoming the sixth member of the Texas delegation to back his Oval Office bid.
“We have an impressive field for the 2016 elections, but we need a president who will march into the White House on day one with their conservative values in one hand and the Constitution in the other,” Weber said in a statement.
{mosads}“I believe Ted Cruz is the candidate who will do just that,” he added. “It is for this reason that I offer my endorsement, and look forward to the march towards new leadership in the White House.”
Weber joins five other House Republicans from Texas who have already endorsed Cruz: Reps. Louie Gohmert, Brian Babin, Michael Burgess, John Culberson and John Ratcliffe.
“I am honored to have Randy’s endorsement,” Cruz said in a statement.
“He is one of several new leaders we have in Congress that will stand up for conservative principles every time.”
Reps. Jim Bridenstine (Okla.) and Jody Hice (Ga.) have also endorsed Cruz, according to The Hill’s endorsement list.
Weber has represented Texas’s 14th Congressional district since 2013. It includes the cities of Beaumont, Friendswood and Galveston.
He initially won election from his seat following the retirement of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) during the 2012 cycle.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ron Paul’s son, is also running for president.
Cruz ranks sixth out of 15 candidates with 6.2 percent support, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of samplings.
Paul, meanwhile, places tenth with 2.4 percent voter support of his own.
