Kasich to Trump: Can’t win jobs through ‘bombast’

Ohio Gov. John Kasich late Monday criticized GOP presidential rival Donald Trump’s approach to attracting new business to the U.S.

The criticism followed Trump’s claim that the Ford Motor Company changed its expansion plans because of Trump’s pressuring.

{mosads}“You don’t produce jobs through bombast or any kind of stuff like that,” Kasich said during an appearance Monday night on Fox News’s “The Kelly File.”

“You don’t get to the point where you embarrass people, you don’t get to the point where you pound them over the head,” Kasich said.

Ford earlier on Monday had disputed Trump’s claim he had altered the company’s future expansion, including relocating some production back to the U.S. from Mexico.

The automobile manufacturer reportedly confirmed last year it would open a new facility in Ohio, where it started manufacturing trucks in August.

“We were able to get Ford because we’ve got a great workforce,” Kasich said on Fox News.

“I understand business, and I know that they’re not going to come to your place and create jobs because you yell at them,” Kasich said. “They’re going to come to your place and they’re going to create jobs because they think there’s an environment where they can be successful, make a profit.”

Trump insisted during an interview Tuesday he was partly responsible for Ford’s decision.

“I think one of the reasons they’re bringing the jobs back is because I’ve been hitting Ford very hard in a lot of speeches,” Trump said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I give credit to Kasich, I give credit to everybody. We should be fighting that this shouldn’t happen, and he has fought for that,” Trump said.
