Dem senator ‘thrilled’ to endorse Clinton

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) on Tuesday endorsed Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, saying he is “thrilled” to support her bid for the White House.

“Across a wide range of issues from college access to manufacturing, from foreign policy to leadership, I’m thrilled to be endorsing her today in her run for president,” Coons said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day.”

Coons told CNN that he is “a big Joe Biden fan and supporter,” adding he thought the vice president “made the right choice for his family” in deciding not to run.

Coons said he was endorsing Clinton because “we need an economic message of optimism that focuses on growth.” He also acknowledged her chief rival Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) focus on income inequality.
