Report: Another major donor gets behind Rubio

Frank VanderSloot, Idaho billionaire and prominent GOP fundraiser, is throwing his support behind Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) presidential bid, according to The Washington Post

“We started out by saying we needed to answer these two questions: Who would be the best president? And number two, who can get elected?” VanderSloot told The Washington Post. “It ended up being the same person.”

{mosads}VanderSloot served as Mitt Romney’s national finance co-chair for his 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. He said that he’ll host fundraisers, bundle donations for Rubio’s presidential campaign and donate to the pro-Rubio super PAC, though VanderSloot didn’t divulge how much he plans to spend.

Along with Rubio, he’d also been previously eyeing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker — who has since dropped out of the race — and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. But VanderSloot said that Bush “was losing steam, and the air’s out of his balloon.”

Rubio has been building financial momentum as he climbs the polls and continues to deliver strong debate performances. Late last month, he netted billionaire GOP donor Paul Singer’s endorsement.
