UFC’s Conor McGregor: Donald Trump ‘can shut his big, fat mouth’
Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight Conor McGregor late Monday ripped Donald Trump for weighing in on his sport.
“Donald can shut his big, fat mouth,” the mixed martial artist told TMZ while passing through LAX airport in Los Angeles.
{mosads}“It’s easy for someone who isn’t in there to comment,” McGregor said of fighting in the Octagon. “It’s different when you’re in there — the emotions are high.”
“I don’t give a f— about Donald Trump,” the interim featherweight titleholder added.
McGregor said he takes issue with Trump’s analysis of the clash between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm earlier this month.
Holm upset Rousey for the UFC’s women’s bantamweight title in a stunning second round knockout via head kick.
“Glad to see @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night,” Trump tweeted on Nov. 15 of the UFC 193 main event the night before in Melbourne, Australia.
“[Rousey] was soundly beaten – not a nice person!” the GOP presidential front-runner added.
Rousey endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for the presidency before losing to Holm earlier this month. She also criticized Trump’s bid for the Oval Office during an interview last August.
“I mean, I wouldn’t vote for him,” Rousey said of the billionaire. “I just really wouldn’t trust the guy with running my country, that’s all.
“I’m not going to get into the specifics of it, but, I mean, I don’t really want a reality TV start to be running my country,” she added of the former “Apprentice” host.
Rousey became the first female champion in UFC history two years ago. The world’s premier mixed martial arts organization now has two female divisions following her debut in 2013.
McGregor said Rousey’s brutal defeat is simply the nature of professional fighting.
“It was a very tough fight,” he said of the female fighter’s first career loss.
“This is the fight business — these things happen,” McGregor continued. “Defeat is the secret ingredient to success.
“True champions can conquer that, overcome and come back,” he added. “Ronda will be back. I wish her all the best.”
