Clinton super-PAC ad hits GOP candidates on climate change
The main super-PAC backing Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton released a new Internet ad on Wednesday targeting several Republican presidential hopefuls for their stances on climate change.
The ad, which is part of Priorities USA’s $1.5 million campaign called “Wrong for Us,” includes clips of Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and real estate mogul Donald Trump questioning the science behind climate change and whether human activity plays a role in it.
{mosads}“For me, we need to be transitioning from fossil fuels … to clean, renewable energy,” Clinton says in the ad. “I want to see us, by the end of my first term, have installed a half a billion more solar panels, and by the end of my second term, have enough clean power to run all the homes in America.”
Priorities USA spokesman Justin Barasky said in a statement that “Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and the rest of the GOP field are putting our future at risk every time they side with deep pocketed polluters who finance their campaigns and deny the science behind climate change.”
The political action committee released the ad as President Obama wraps up his appearance at international climate talks in Paris, which he called an “act of defiance” against terrorism and “an economic and security imperative.” He also said he thinks the next president, regardless of party affiliation, will follow in his footsteps regarding his pledges about climate change.
Many Republican presidential candidates have criticized Obama, arguing that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is the biggest threat to the country.
