Trump: Obama a ‘fool’ on Syrian refugees
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump called President Obama a “fool” this week for his plans to resettle thousands of Syrian refugees in the U.S.
“Well look, if the president is somebody, you know — you could say he’s a fool, in a certain way — because everybody is saying don’t do it,” Trump said Thursday night on Fox News.
{mosads}”He’s very arrogant, he’s very stubborn, he doesn’t want to listen to anybody, and he’s so wrong,” the business mogul added during the interview with host Sean Hannity.
The Obama administration pushed back last week against Trump’s previous claim that the president wants to bring up to 250,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S. over the next year.
The State Department has maintained the administration plans to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees during fiscal 2016, a fraction of the number of all refugees it plans to admit from around the world.
“The 10,000 is not a real number. The 10,000 is going to be much more. You know, I’ve been saying 200,000,” Trump insisted Thursday. “They’re going to bring hundreds of thousands [into the U.S.].”
The issue of resettling the refugees has continue to rankle debate over the administration’s plans, with Texas this week suing over plans to bring six Syrian refugees to the state.
Despite the lawsuit, two refugee families are reportedly still heading to the U.S., with the Justice Department saying in a court filing Friday that they would arrive in Texas on Monday.
