Kasich super-PAC compares Trump to a hippo

Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s presidential campaign and the super-PAC backing his bid both rolled out new ads on Monday attacking Donald Trump.

The super-PAC New Day for America, which can’t legally coordinate with Kasich’s campaign, released a new TV ad, titled “Hippo-Crit,” that likens the real estate mogul to a hippopotamus and cites examples of hypocrisy.

“Donald Trump repeatedly says one thing, does another,” the narrator in the ad says. “The hypocrite says he’s champion of American workers but had his line of Trump ties made in China.”

The ad continues, “Some of the laborers on his palatial D.C. hotel? Illegal immigrants.”

The super-PAC said the TV ad started airing on Monday in New Hampshire. The first-in-the-nation primary state has been a major focus of Kasich’s campaign.

Kasich’s official campaign, meanwhile, released a new web ad, titled “Trump vs. the Constitution,” which recites excerpts of the Constitution and accuses Trump of infringing on specific clauses in the First Amendment.

The ad highlights freedom of religion in the Bill of Rights and then cuts to the real estate mogul’s rally from last week when he called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

It also points to freedom of the press before transitioning to a CNN segment on journalists who were excluded from a Trump campaign event.

“I don’t think Mr. Trump gets the whole Constitution thing,” the ad’s narrator says.

Trump maintains his lead among the GOP field with 29.8 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of national polls. Kasich trails behind Trump in ninth place with 2.2 percent.

In New Hampshire GOP primary polls, Trump also leads the pack with 28.7 percent and holds a wide margin over Kasich, who sits in fifth place with 7.3 percent, according to a RealClearPolitics average.
