Festivus creator on Rand: ‘I hate that guy’

The “Seinfeld” writer who created Festivus doesn’t want Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to celebrate the fictional holiday

{mosads}“I hate the guy,” Don O’Keefe told The Huffington Post’s “HuffPost Live” in an interview Wednesday. “I think he’s some form of lizard that’s crawled into a suit and somehow been allowed in the Senate.

“I strongly dislike it when elected officials with whom I strongly disagree try to co-opt a government holiday of mine for venal, immoral purposes that hurt our nation,” he added.

O’Keefe said he popularized Festivus on “Seinfeld” after his father invented the parody holiday in the 1960s. The “Festivus for the Rest of Us” is characterized by airing grievances against those who have disappointed one in the previous year.

“I lost it when I saw that Rand Paul — whom my father strongly disliked before he died — was using my holiday to make warmed-over, 10-year-old talking points,” O’Keefe said. “My father was a strong, 1950s-era liberal Democrat [and] hated the reactionary nature of today’s Republican Party.”

The 2016 presidential candidate marked Festivus early Wednesday by mocking other White House hopefuls and decrying government waste. He has spent much of the day tweeting barbs at a host of targets, including GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, his Democratic counterpart.

O’Keefe admitted Wednesday that his own grievances against the Kentucky senator had fallen on deaf ears.

“I just made fun of him as much as I could but he never took notice of me,” the comedy scribe said. “I tried to troll them and it didn’t work because they’re either too stupid or too smart.”
