Voter slams Huckabee for defending Duggars

A woman slammed Mike Huckabee on Wednesday saying he supports child abuse because earlier this year he defended the Duggar family, according to a video from the Democratic opposition research group American Bridge.

The woman said during a Huckabee campaign event that when information about Josh Duggar sexually molesting young girls — including his sisters — emerged, Huckabee said he felt sorry for the parents. That, she argued, meant he supports child abuse.

Huckabee defended his actions, saying he never supported child abuse.

{mosads}“You do not know that family and I do,” he said. “I never supported anything that happened to those daughters…I’ve known them since they were babies.”

The woman continued with her attack, often interrupting the candidate. She said the Duggar parents knew for a year about the abuse and did nothing about it. But Huckabee stuck with his defense of the family, calling her statement untrue.

“You come in here to confront me, which is fine,” he said. “But you cannot abuse the reputation of a Godly family who had been through hell because a son of theirs — one of their many children — did something evil and sinful that nobody is backing up and supporting,” he said.

He said he supported the reality TV family, who tried to work through their problems.

“We’re finished with you.. you’re done,” he said.

The woman went on to say she was sexually molested before walking out of the room.

Earlier this year, Huckabee said that Josh Duggar’s actions when he was a teen were “as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.'”

Although Huckabee didn’t defend Duggar’s actions, he said earlier this year that Duggar had confessed and gone forward to live a “responsible and circumspect life as an adult.”
