The father of Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul said on Wednesday that it’s “realistic” Donald Trump will be the GOP nominee.
“If I had a limited sum of money that I thought was a sure bet, I probably wouldn’t invest a whole lot,” said former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) in an interview Wednesday on Newsmax’s “Steve Malzberg Show.”

“They pick people, they boost them up. It’s entertainment,” he said. “And Trump really fit into that quite well.”
When talking about his son’s chance at the presidency, Paul said, “I think he may well surprise everybody,” adding that “he has good organization and caucus states are different.”
But he added that the system isn’t fair, noting his son’s exclusion from the main stage in last week’s Republican debate. Rand Paul did not make the cut for debate based on polling and decided not to take part in the undercard debate. He contended the GOP banned him from the debate stage.
