Barbara Bush swipes at Trump in new ad
Barbara Bush takes a swipe at Donald Trump in a new ad for her son Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign.
{mosads}The former first lady says Jeb Bush wants to be president for the right reasons, unlike some other candidates in the field.
“Rather than talking about how popular they are or how great they are, he’s doing it because he sees a huge need and it’s not being filled by anybody,” she said, likely referring to Trump, the GOP front-runner.
“Of all the people running, he seems to be the one who can solve the problems,” Bush added. “I think he’ll be a great president.”
As she speaks, the video shows footage of Jeb Bush campaigning.
She also praises her son for his “big heart,” and compliments him as a “good father” and hard worker.
The 30-second spot was released online Friday along with a handwritten note from Bush.
In the letter, she touts her son’s fiscally conservative record as governor of Florida.
“He cut taxes every year, balanced the budget, helped Florida create over one million jobs, improved Florida schools and tripled the number of charter schools,” she writes in the letter obtained by The Hill. “Scores went up!”
The letter has already been sent out in Iowa and is headed shortly to New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Jeb Bush also hinted at the possibility of his brother, former President George W. Bush, reappearing on the campaign trail in the days leading up to the New Hampshire primary.
“I’m sure my brother is going to be campaigning by my side, all that stuff is going to happen, but I got to win this,” he said at the town hall in Hampton on Thursday, according to CNN.
“People, there are people who think it’s a little odd for a third Bush to be president of the United States,” he added. “The expectations on me are higher because of that, fine, you know who has higher expectations than the conventional wisdom? Me.”
