Ted Cruz breaks out his inner Stevie Wonder
A record deal is probably not in Ted Cruz’s future if the GOP presidential contender misses out on the White House in 2016.
Cruz broke out a tune during CNN’s GOP town hall in South Carolina on Wednesday when moderator Anderson Cooper asked him about singing to his wife, Heidi, over the phone.
“I actually don’t sing musicals. I will sing things like, ‘Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling, Heidi-tine,’ which is really corny,” the Texas senator said, noting he likes to embarrass his wife when she puts him on speakerphone.
“Or I’d do, ‘I just called to say I love you. I just called to say I care,” he sang, giving his best attempt at Stevie Wonder’s iconic song.
Cruz was his own harshest critic, calling himself a “painfully horrible singer.” But said he hopes “it is sincere and endearing” to his wife.
