Trump repeats disavowal of David Duke in debate
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday reiterated that he disavowed the Ku Klux Klan and white supremacist David Duke.
“I totally disavow the Ku Klux Klan. I totally disavow David Duke,” he said during the Republican debate Thursday on Fox News. “It was very clear.”
Trump said he has been asked the question many times.
Trump originally failed to disavow the KKK and David Duke in an interview on CNN last Sunday. He blamed his response on a lousy earpiece.
During the debate, he said the question he was asked Sunday referred to “groups” and he wanted clarification on which groups he was being asked to disavow.
“You have to tell me which groups,” he said. “Ultimately, he got to the Ku Klux Klan, which obviously I’m going to disavow, and, by the way, if you look on my Twitter account, almost immediately after the program, they were disavowed again.”
Trump said it’s “amazing” that when he does something on Twitter, everybody picks it up.
“But when I did this one, nobody ever picks it up,” he said.
“Take a look at my Twitter account.”
