Clinton campaign chairman: Sanders’s winning streak is over

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman is dismissing a string of recent wins by rival Bernie Sanders, saying the former secretary of State is well positioned in upcoming contests.

{mosads}”We’ve got six contests coming up on the East Coast. They’re more diverse,” said John Podesta on ABC’s “This Week.” “They’re primaries, not caucuses. So has he done well in these Western caucuses? Yes. But we think when you get to bigger states, diverse states, primary states, we’re going to do very well.”

Podesta’s comments come after a win for Sanders in Wyoming, where he will pick up seven of the state’s 14 delegates.

The Vermont senator now won seven of the last eight Democratic contests, but the Clinton campaign thinks the streak will end there.

“This is the best territory for him on the calendar,” he said. “Most of those were Western caucuses. But when you look at what happened overall in this election, she’s gotten 2.4 million more votes than Bernie Sanders.”

The Democrats are campaigning hard ahead of New York’s April 19 primary, where 291 delegates are up for grabs. Clinton has a 14-point lead over Sanders in the state, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
