Beck sees ‘end of the GOP’ if Cruz, Trump denied nomination
Glenn Beck said on Sunday that he thinks the Republican Party would be severely damaged if neither of the two presidential front-runners became the GOP nominee.
“I think it would be the end of the GOP,” the conservative radio host said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
{mosads}Beck, who endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, said he expects the nominee to be either the Texas senator or current front-runner Donald Trump. He touted Cruz’s recent wins and said he has a good chance in upcoming states.
When asked what would happen if Speaker Paul Ryan were plucked as the nominee, Beck said it would be “very bad.”
“We’ve all gone out. We’ve been passionate about it … I really think it has to be one of the two front-runners. I just think people would feel very betrayed.”
He said people like Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump are doing so well because people feel disenfranchised and angry.
“That’s something we don’t want to add fuel to,” he said. “We don’t want to play into the anger and hatred and vitriol.”
He said a Trump nomination would be “disastrous” but added that the billionaire must be the nominee if he wins the necessary number of delegates.
“It can’t go to dirty politics,” he said.
