Donald Trump’s national field director on Monday resigned his post, according to reports.
Stuart Jolly left the billionaire’s presidential campaign after a staff reorganization two days before, Politico first reported.
{mosads}“I left,” he told CNN on Monday evening. “I wasn’t pushed. I wasn’t shoved. I wasn’t asked to leave.”
“I don’t want to hurt Mr. Trump, and I certainly don’t want to hurt Corey [Lewandowski],” Jolly added, referencing Trump’s campaign manager. “You gotta love and respect the people you work for. Things were changing, so I’m going to give them an opportunity. I would obviously have less input.”
Jolly’s departure comes after the Trump campaign added veteran GOP operative Rick Wiley as political director last week.
Wiley previously served as campaign manager for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential bid, which ended last year.
Jolly would have reported to Wiley, Politico reported.
“Stuart will not work with Rick Wiley,” a campaign operative said. “It just wasn’t going to happen.
“Stuart is the only guy who has worked with the field staff, and they are loyal to him. He is the only guy who understands how this works. It is going to be a huge shock when he leaves.”
