Anti-Trump PAC shifts away from attacks

One of the highest-profile anti-Donald Trump super PACs is easing off the presumptive GOP presidential nominee and shifting its focus to congressional races instead.

{mosads} Our Principles PAC, which has spent more than $17 million during the 2016 election cycle aimed at bringing down Trump, is funded by conservative billionaires, including the Ricketts family, which owns the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

PAC founder Katie Packer told The Hill the group will focus on protecting vulnerable Republicans who are at risk of losing their seats with Trump at the top of the ballot.

“The first thing we’re looking at is what can be done for down-ballot Republicans,” she said.

“We don’t have any plans to actively oppose Trump in the general election. We’re all good Republicans and want to see the party do well, but we continue to believe he’s terrible for the party, the country, and especially down-ballot Republicans, so we’re looking for opportunities to help them.”

Packer on Twitter called claims the PAC is winding down operations “100% categorically false.”

Our Principles PAC has launched a number of attention-grabbing ads during the campaign, including one that featured women reading real quotes from Trump in which he used the terms “bimbo” and “fat pig” to describe women.

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, whose family has given at least $5.5 million to the political action committee, is expected to announce he will endorse Trump on Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
