GOP rep.: It’s on Trump to win over conservatives

Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) says Donald Trump must sell himself to conservative lawmakers.

“What Donald could do is Donald could reach out to members of Congress who also don’t know him,” Duffy said Thursday on “Fox & Friends.”

{mosads}“He could start to announce who his advisory teams are, who he might actually consider for the Supreme Court,” he added.

“If he had conservatives that we all knew were advising him, I think we would all feel a lot more comfortable in his candidacy. These are all things that are in his court that he has to do to rally the base to him.”

Trump is meeting Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Ryan said last week that he is “just not ready” to support Trump’s bid for president, sparking concerns about GOP unity heading toward the general election.

“At this point I’m not ready to jump in, but I hope we can get there,” Ryan said. “I’m not there right now. I hope to, though, and I want to.”

Duffy said he hopes Ryan and Trump find common ground during their much-anticipated huddle.

“After this meeting, I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “Hopefully Paul Ryan will move towards Donald Trump.”

Ryan on Wednesday said he wants to mend fences with Trump and rally against Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“I want to be part of that unifying process so that we’re at full strength this fall, so that we can win this election. We cannot afford to lose this election to Hillary Clinton.”
