A Hillary Clinton surrogate said Donald Trump’s controversial remarks regarding women will hurt him in November because “there are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women.”
Ed Rendell, the former governor of Pennsylvania, is the chairman of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for this July’s Democratic National Convention.
{mosads}Rendell was speaking with The Washington Post about the appeal Trump may have with working-class Democrats in the Philadelphia suburbs.
He acknowledged Trump could win some of those voters but said he will ultimately lose among Republican female voters because of his past comments.
“For every one he’ll lose 1 1/2, two Republican women. Trump’s comments like ‘You can’t be a 10 if you’re flat-chested,’ that’ll come back to haunt him,” Rendell said in the interview. “There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women. People take that stuff personally.”
Post reporter David Weigel, who penned the Wednesday story, tweeted that he “did not intend that” after The Associated Press first picked up Rendell’s quote, adding he thought the former governor “was making a funny point.”
