Donald Trump on Thursday touted the long-awaited endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), saying the pair will work “very hard” together.
“So great to have the endorsement and support of Paul Ryan. We will both be working very hard to Make America Great Again!” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee tweeted.
Ryan said Thursday he would vote for Trump after withholding a formal endorsement for weeks.
{mosads}Ryan in early May said he was “not ready” to back Trump. The two later held a meeting with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus last month, but Ryan also declined to endorse Trump at that time.
He finally said Thursday that weeks of conversations with the Trump campaign assured him that the candidate would be on the same page as House Republicans.
“Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall,” Ryan wrote in an editorial published in his hometown’s newspaper.
