Reid spokeswoman: McConnell guilty of ‘moral cowardice’

A spokeswoman for Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Sunday for not calling Donald Trump’s attacks on a federal judge “racist.”

{mosads}”Senator McConnell’s evasions are exactly the kind of moral cowardice that led to Donald Trump’s rise,” said Reid’s spokeswoman, Kristen Orthman.

Trump last week criticized Judge Gonzalo Curiel, questioning whether the judge could be impartial as he oversees lawsuits against Trump University.

Trump said Curiel’s “Mexican heritage” is an “absolute conflict” in three civil fraud lawsuits against the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. He said the judge is biased because of Trump’s calls for a wall along the country’s border with Mexico.

On “Meet the Press” Sunday, McConnell dodged three times a question from host Chuck Todd about whether Trump’s remarks were racist.

“[Trump] has essentially said he cannot be impartial because he is Hispanic. Is that not a racist statement?” Todd asked.

“I couldn’t disagree more with a statement like that,” McConnell said.

Todd continued to press McConnell, who only responded that he didn’t agree with the Trump’s comments.
