Former Romney adviser joins Trump super-PAC
Alex Castellanos, who advised Mitt Romney’s 2008 Republican presidential campaign, is joining a super-PAC supportive of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, The New York Times reported Sunday night.
{mosads}Castellanos, who will make advertisements and work on strategy, confirmed he is joining Rebuilding America Now. The group, which was created last week, is supported by Tom Barrack, a financier, real estate investor and longtime friend of Trump.
“I’m worried that we don’t have four or eight more years to wait to change direction,” Castellanos told the Times in explaining his decision to join the group. “This is not about whether the Republican wins or loses the White House. This is about whether we can afford to go in the same direction, and because I’m concerned if we go too much farther we won’t be able to turn back.”
The group will focus on countering the $90 million Priorities USA Action, the super-PAC backing Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, has pledged to spend attacking Trump.
Castellanos had previously criticized Trump and had explored the possibilities of creating a “Stop Trump” effort last fall, the paper reported.
The super-PAC released its first ad Sunday, which links Hillary Clinton‘s email controversy with former President Bill Clinton‘s Monica Lewinsky scandal.
