Donald Trump on Tuesday stepped up his attacks on President Obama, accusing him of prioritizing U.S. enemies over the nation’s own citizens.
{mosads}Obama “claims to know our enemy, and yet he continues to prioritize our enemy over our allies, and for that matter, the American people,” Trump told The Associated Press.
“When I am president, it will always be America First,” he added.
In a speech on Tuesday, Obama issued a blistering denunciation of Trump’s response to the mass shooting in Orlando on Sunday that killed 49 people. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee reiterated his call to ban Muslims from entering the country and proposed expanding the idea to include people from any area that has a history of terrorism against the U.S.
“This is a country founded on basic freedoms, including freedom of religion. We don’t have religious tests here,” Obama said.
“If we ever abandon those values, we would not only make it easier to radicalize people here and around the world, but we would have betrayed the very things we are trying to protect. I will not let that happen.”
