Hillary Clinton is taking credit for Donald Trump’s call to prevent people on the terror watch list from getting guns.
“Welcome to the cause,” the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee told her GOP counterpart in an interview with the Huffington Post.
{mosads}“This is something I’ve been talking about for a long time,” Clinton continued. “Look, the NRA and the other gun lobby members should be moving rapidly to work with Congress on this legislation. I know members of Congress, hopefully on both sides of the aisle, are beginning to look to see if they can pass this. And I fully support it.”
Trump tweeted Wednesday that he would be meeting with the NRA about “not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns.”
The NRA said it was “happy” to meet with Trump, but it’s not changing its position on “due process [and the] right to self-defense for law-abiding citizens.”
Trump’s announcement comes days after a gunman, who pledged allegiance to ISIS, killed 49 and injured 53 in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla.
