Trump on Lewandowski: ‘He’s a good guy’

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump further explained his decision to fire campaign manager Corey Lewandowski Monday night on Fox News’s “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“We’ve had great success. … I think Corey’s terrific,” he said, hours after ending the campaign’s relationship with Lewandowski. “I watched him before [on CNN]. He was terrific toward me. Said I was a talented person. And he’s a talented person. He’s a good guy. He’s a friend of mine. But I think it’s time now for a different kind of a campaign.”

In a near half-hour interview with Dana Bash on CNN earlier Monday, Lewandowski defended himself against charges that he had failed to build an adequate campaign structure and was loyal to Trump, saying there are no hard feelings and insisting that his last conversation with the billionaire was a pleasant one.

“We ran a small, beautiful, well-unified campaign,” Trump said Monday night. “It worked very well in the primaries. I think I’m probably going to do some of that [in the general]. … But we’re going to go a little bit of a different route from this point forward. A little different style.”
