Donald Trump said in an interview on Wednesday that he will defeat Hillary Clinton by focusing on substance over scandal.
“I hit Bill [Clinton] a couple of times because once he’s in the campaign, you know if he’s in the campaign, I guess he deserves to be hit,” he said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
{mosads}“But I would much rather have it based on issues and policy,” Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, added. “I think we win on issues and policy.”
Trump has repeatedly vowed he will target the Clintons’ past controversies during his expected general election showdown with Hillary Clinton, his Democratic counterpart.
Trump’s campaign on Tuesday, for example, launched a website documenting Hillary Clinton’s alleged dishonesty.
The site, lyingcrookedhillary.com, will “showcase some of Clinton’s most disastrous lies to the American people,” according to a statement from Trump’s campaign.
Trump has not shied away from Bill Clinton, however, needling the former president’s history of marital infidelity.
Hillary Clinton leads Trump by about 6 percentage points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
