Trump: Black Lives Matter is ‘dividing America’

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I would say they’re dividing America,” Trump said Tuesday on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

Five police officers were killed by a gunman last week during a protest in Dallas of police violence against black people. 

“And I’ve seen it and I think it’s certainly, it’s very divisive and I think they’re hurting themselves.”

Trump also said the phrase “black lives matter” is “very divisive.”

“The first time I heard it, I said ‘You have to be kidding,'” he said.

“I think it’s a very, very, very divisive term. There’s no question about it.”

During the interview, Trump noted the two fatal shootings by police of black men in separate incidents last week that were caught on camera were “terrible” and “disgusting.”

“Both of them were very, very sad,” Trump said.

“So maybe that’s lack of training, maybe it’s bad people, I don’t know, it’s such a sad thing.”

He said there “could be” a problem in American policing where blacks are treated differently than whites. Still, he said he thinks the police do an “incredible job in this country.”

“The problem with two instances like this, which I think were terrible, but they get broadcast on television and they don’t show all of the good work that the police does,” Trump said.

“I’m a big fan of the police in this country.”
